Furore over "unfavourable" Trump portrait in Colorado Capitol

Donald Trump has criticised the artist Sarah Boardman for painting an "unfavourable" portrait that hangs in the Colorado State Capitol. The former president is demanding that Governor Jared Polis remove the piece, which is located next to portraits of other presidents.

Trump expressed his dissatisfaction, claiming the portrait in Colorado was deliberately distorted. — Nobody likes a bad picture or painting of themselves, but the one in Colorado, in the State Capitol put up by the Governor, along with all other Presidents, was purposefully distorted to a level that even I, perhaps, have never seen before, — Trump wrote.

Sarah Boardman, the artist responsible for the portrait, previously painted Barack Obama during his presidency, which, according to Trump, was a successful piece.

She must have lost her talent as she got older. — Trump added.

Reactions from Colorado residents

Trump claims that many Colorado residents have reached out to him to express their dissatisfaction with the unfavourable portrait. Trump said that he is reaching out on their behalf to Governor Polis, whom he considers "extremely weak on crime." "Jared should be ashamed of himself." — he concluded.

The portrait was first unveiled in 2019 during Trump's first term in the White House. It is unclear what prompted him to express his dissatisfaction on social media on Sunday evening.
