Germany rules out a restart of Nord Stream 2

During a visit to Kyiv, Annalena Baerbock definitively ruled out the resumption of the Nord Stream 2 project. "The wrong decision regarding Nord Stream-2 cost us, that is, German society, very dearly," Baerbock stated during a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. She stressed that Germany has paid billions of euros, making the reactivation of the pipeline impossible.

The issue of Nord Stream 2 has re-emerged internationally in the context of discussions between Washington and Moscow. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov mentioned the potential restoration of natural gas supplies to Europe through the Nord Stream pipelines. "Now, of course, there are disagreements. But the interest in restoring normal energy supply to Europe is not the interest of the United States and Russia alone?" Lavrov asked on Russian television.

Will Germany change its mind?

Despite some voices in Germany suggesting a reconsideration of the project, Baerbock clarified that these views are not shared by leading German politicians.
