Giant squid encounter off Japan's coast thrills divers
The recording of a giant squid found off the coast of Japan continues to captivate to this day. Although the event took place in 2023, the video still circulates in foreign media. The film shows the oceanic giant, which is 2.5 metres long.
The recording was made in 2023 by diving instructor Yosuke Tanaka and his wife Miki while they were swimming near the city of Toyooka in the Hyogo Prefecture off the coast of Japan. The film shows how the couple encountered the squid in the water.
Oceanic giant in the recording. "It was very exciting"
Initially, it seems that the squid is not very large, but at a certain point, powerful arms come into view, making a huge impression. The Japanese couple who recorded the sea creature shared their feelings in an interview with AFP.
Yosuke Tanaka described the moment as thrilling, explaining that the sight of the creature moving its tentacles made him imagine how dangerous it might be if it latched onto him and dragged him away.
The squid was 2.5 metres long. As the portal ladbible.com reminds us, the average height of an adult man is 1.75 metres, and a woman is 1.60 metres.
Remarkable appearance of the squid
Although ocean exploration can lead to encounters with various creatures, squids are known to be among the most elusive inhabitants of the depths and typically spend most of their lives many metres below the water's surface.
When people encountered them, it was usually related to squids being accidentally caught in nets or when they washed ashore. Such a close encounter with this giant is a rarity.
