Grill up sweet delights: Bananas take centre stage at barbecues
Grilled bananas with nuts offer a simple yet delightful dessert cooked on the barbecue. They are swift to prepare. The perfect texture and sweetness are achieved with two key ingredients, as detailed below.
As grilling season arrives, our gardens are filled with the enticing aromas of spices, marinades, and smoke. Although barbecues are primarily associated with meat dishes, in my household, bananas are equally favoured.
Which bananas to choose for grilling?
I prefer bananas that are not too ripe, so they hold together during grilling. Ideally, their peel should be uniformly yellow. A great alternative to regular bananas is plantains, which also perform excellently on the grill. Plantains, often referred to as "vegetable bananas," are starchier and less sweet, making them a perfect accompaniment to meat dishes. Peel, slice, season, and grill for about 15 minutes.
