Energy balls were popularised by Anna Lewandowska, a specialist in healthy nutrition who manages her husband's diet, Robert. She has many ideas for them. You can draw inspiration from her but also easily create your own recipe, for example, one that will support brain function and concentration.

Children like sweets, and as we know, "forbidden fruit" tastes the best. That's why I try not to forbid them but to offer a healthier version. In such situations, energy balls work great, especially as you can choose their ingredients so that they have a positive effect on brain function.

Not just for athletes

Where does the energy in energy balls come from? You won't find coffee, tea, or a drop of alcohol in them. Instead, there are oats, dried fruits, nuts, peanut butter, and honey—healthy ingredients that can be freely selected. Anna Lewandowska often prepares such a healthy dessert for her husband. However, not only athletes should consider them. They are ideal for anyone who needs energy for a whole day of work or school. Therefore, the well-known nutrition specialist certainly serves the energy balls to her daughters as well.

A good source of energy

Energy balls help maintain energy and concentration until the end of classes. The balls are ideal as a snack between meals or as an additional energy source after breakfast. They are also worth offering to children before physical activity. They provide valuable nutrients, fibre, and healthy fats. You can experiment with the composition of the balls, preparing them slightly differently each time. My children like the energy balls from this recipe the most.

Ingredients:

  • 100 grams of oats,
  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa,
  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa nibs,
  • 2 tablespoons of honey,
  • 2 tablespoons of peanut butter,
  • 1 tablespoon of finely chopped hazelnuts,
  • 60 millilitres of milk.

Instructions:

  1. Place all the ingredients in a bowl and mix until combined. You can also pulse the oats in a blender beforehand.
  2. If desired, form the mixture into walnut-sized balls and roll them in cocoa or coconut flakes.
  3. Refrigerate them; they should be ready after an hour.
  4. Store them in the fridge so they don't crumble.
