Port Glarokavos, situated on the Kassandra Peninsula in northern Greece, has earned the title of the most beautiful beach in Europe according to European Best Destinations.
The most beautiful beach in Europe
Kassandra is part of Chalkidiki, also known as the Chalcidice Peninsula, which resembles a trident. It is renowned for its stunning beaches, among other attractions. Greek volcanic islands often feature rocky coasts, which can be inconvenient for beachgoers, especially those with children. In contrast, Chalkidiki offers kilometres of wide, sandy beaches, most of which have been awarded the Blue Flag.
The peninsula is also blessed with beautiful vegetation. Fragrant pine forests and olive groves cover large areas, adding charm to the landscape. It is much greener here than on the islands, and this, along with the turquoise water, creates an exceptionally picturesque scene.
The Chalcidice Peninsula is a region that the tourism industry has been rediscovering over the past few years. Chalkidiki combines everything – beaches, the sea, somewhat wild nature, as well as authentic Greek culture, atmosphere, and rich history. Owing to the peninsula being slightly less popular than the bustling islands, it’s possible to find attractive offers there. The accommodation options are varied, featuring many smaller, atmospheric hotels with a boutique character.
Chalkidiki's unusual shape is often compared to a trident or a three-fingered hand. In its southern part, there are three peninsulas – Kassandra, Sithonia, and Athos. It is on the first of these that you find Port Glarokavos, the beach recognised as the most beautiful in Europe.
