How to pick and ripen the perfect avocado every time

Although there is a great deal of controversy surrounding this fruit, avocados are still valued for their high content of vitamins, fibre, and unsaturated fatty acids. When choosing the best fruit in the shop, thoughts often turn to a delicious creamy paste or slices that fall apart with each bite on a slice of fresh bread. The disappointment is significant when, upon cutting open the avocado, it turns out to be hard. Fortunately, there's a solution for that.

The avocado is a popular fruit with many health benefits. It is particularly appreciated by vegetarians and those on a weight-loss diet. A ripe avocado has a velvety, creamy texture that many people expect. Unfortunately, often upon returning home, it turns out the fruit is not ripe enough. It's frustrating when you plan to prepare guacamole later that same day.

How to choose a soft avocado in the shop?

You won't need to soften the avocado at home if you pay attention to a certain detail while in the shop. Don't worry, you don't have to check every fruit with your fingers, although you might notice certain differences just by picking it up. However, to be sure of the right choice, it's worth looking at the spot where the stem was. If it's green, it's a sign that the avocado isn't ripe yet. A yellow colour means the fruit is just what you're dreaming of.

How to speed up the ripening of an avocado?

Unfortunately, sometimes ripe fruits are simply not available in the shop. In that case, it's best to buy what's available because why should you abandon your plans? There are several ways to speed up the ripening of avocado. Unfortunately, many of them require waiting for a few hours. To make the avocado soften in a short time, you should place it in the oven.

How to soften an avocado in the oven?

  1. Wrap the avocado in aluminium foil.
  2. Place it in an oven preheated to 100°C for 15-20 minutes – in the case of harder fruits, the time may be longer.
  3. Carefully remove the avocado and allow it to cool. After a while, it will be soft and ready to eat.
