In diplomatic limbo: Trump holds out for Putin call
On Tuesday, the British BBC newsroom reported that Donald Trump was awaiting a conversation with Vladimir Putin. Special Trump envoy Mike Waltz responded to these reports.
Putin appeared at the Association of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs meeting around 11:30 AM Greenwich Time. Meanwhile, Peskov had previously announced that the conversation with Trump would occur between 12 PM and 2 PM. The Russian TASS agency reported that Putin left the conference at 12:52 PM.
The British broadcaster pointed out that the schedule could easily be interpreted as a message suggesting that other matters take priority and that waiting is necessary.
The White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino reported on platform X that Trump's conversation with Putin regarding the end of the Russian invasion of Ukraine began at 3 PM Greenwich Time. In the past, Putin has often been late to essential meetings, forcing others to wait.
Waltz was asked about this during a press conference on Wednesday evening, Greenwich Time, in front of the White House. Regarding suggestions that the Russian leader made Trump wait before the conversation started, Waltz said: "Donald J Trump does not sit and wait for an hour for any head of state."
