Israel threatens direct action against Iran over Houthi support
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz threatened Iran on Thursday. He announced that any further support for Houthi fighters would result in Israel targeting Iranian authorities in a similar manner to its actions against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Israel's Defence Minister, Israel Katz, warned on Thursday that if Iran does not cease its support for Yemeni Houthi rebels, Israel will take retaliatory actions comparable to those previously seen in Beirut, the Gaza Strip, and Damascus. His warning follows the Houthi attack on Ben Gurion Airport, Israel's main airport, which happened last Sunday.
Katz issued a stern warning to Iranian leaders who finance, arm, and support the Houthi organization, stating that the proxy system and the so-called axis of evil have collapsed. He declared that Iran would be held directly responsible and vowed that Tehran would face the same consequences as Hezbollah in Beirut, Hamas in the Gaza Strip, and al-Assad in Damascus.
The attack, carried out with a ballistic missile, did not cause significant damage to the airport itself. Although a few people were injured, the injuries were not severe. The attack also led to disruptions in airport operations. As PAP reminds us, traffic at the airport was briefly halted. Some airlines suspended their flights to the airport for several days.
Israel's retaliatory action
In response to the attack, the Israeli military conducted strikes on Sanaa airport and other targets in Yemen. Since the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip, the Houthis have regularly fired rockets and drones at Israel. Most missiles are intercepted, thus preventing damage and casualties.
The Houthi rebels have also conducted over 100 attacks targeting commercial ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. They claim this is their way of supporting Hamas in its fight against Israel.
