During this time, Italians will also celebrate Liberation Day, commemorating the country's liberation from German Nazism and Fascism in 1945. The Minister for Civil Defence, Nello Musumeci, emphasised that all ceremonies will proceed with respect for the period of mourning.

Musumeci stated, "All ceremonies will, of course, take place, but with the context in mind and therefore with the restraint that circumstances impose on everyone."

Pope Francis died on Monday morning. He was 88 years old. The funeral of Pope Francis is scheduled for Saturday, 26 April. As communicated by the Vatican, the solemn funeral Mass for Bishop of Rome Francis will begin at 9 AM BST.

The government has allocated 5 million euro for the organisation of the funeral, the reception of pilgrims, and ensuring security and public order in Rome.
