Various media outlets have reported on the alleged resignation of Ramzan Kadyrov. A close Kremlin ally confirmed in an interview with Russian media that Kadyrov has approached Vladimir Putin, asking to be released from his role as the leader of Chechnya.

Speaking with journalists, Kadyrov addressed the circulating rumours about his potential resignation.

"I've heard those rumours too. They write all sorts of things. On the contrary, I myself am asking to be dismissed from my position. Someone else will have their own initiatives and vision. I hope my request will be supported," Kadyrov said, as quoted by RIA Novosti.

Kadyrov also clarified that his earlier statements regarding resignation had been misinterpreted. - I can ask, but only the president makes the decision - he emphasised, referring to Putin.

Earlier reports from "Novaya Gazeta Europa" suggested that Kadyrov's health condition had deteriorated, which might have accelerated the prospect of a change of power in Chechnya.
