Daffodils are a popular choice for home decoration, especially during the Easter period when we want to invite spring indoors. The yellow flowers immediately brighten and cosy up a room.

Although daffodils are quite durable, there is a simple trick to enjoy them for even longer. With these methods, the flowers will last in the vase for weeks.

How to extend the freshness of daffodils? Here are the best ways

Avoiding heat

The first step is to position the vase correctly. Daffodils don't like heat, so avoid placing them near radiators. Otherwise, they will wilt rapidly.

Ice cube in water

To extend the freshness of a bouquet of daffodils, add an ice cube to the water. This will lower the temperature and slow down the wilting process.

Lemon acid mixture

A well-known and effective method for caring for daffodils is to prepare a solution with half a teaspoon of citric acid. Before placing the flowers in the vase with the citric mixture, briefly dip their stems in warm water. Citric acid lowers the pH of the water, which inhibits the growth of microorganisms. The water with citric acid should be changed every couple of days.

Trimming the stems

When bringing daffodils home, trim their stems immediately at a 45-degree angle to increase the area for water absorption. It's also important to regularly change the water, as this prevents mould and microorganisms from developing.
