Ford's Mustang GTD: A record-breaking supercar milestone
GTD is further proof that Ford knows how to make sports cars. The road racing car emerged last year, astonishing with its appearance and potential performance. Now, the Americans have revealed the details.
According to homologation data for the US market, the GTD version is the most powerful and fastest Mustang in history. The 5.2-litre V8, bolstered by supercharging, produces a remarkable 815 bhp. Even more impressive is the maximum torque, amounting to 664 lb-ft. These specifications allow it to reach speeds of 202 mph.
Notably, the GTD will excel not only on straights. As proof, Ford plans to conquer the Nürburgring in just under 7 minutes. To help achieve this feat, carbon-ceramic brakes, suspension with semi-active dampers, and extensive aerodynamics will be employed.
- We’ve been laser-focused from day one to create a supercar with world-class performance and the soul of a Mustang - says Greg Goodall, chief engineer of the Mustang GTD programme. - The GTD’s heart is its 5.2-liter V8, delivering more horsepower per liter than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
It is not known precisely how many units Ford intends to produce. However, there will certainly be fewer than the number of interested buyers. It is worth noting that there are 7,500 people on the waiting list. As we can see, the price of €439,138 has not deterred potential customers.
