Poland's PHU Lechmar boosts Ukraine's arsenal with €490m ammo
The Polish company PHU Lechmar has begun delivering ammunition to Ukraine under a contract valued at 23 billion hryvnias (approximately €488 million), reports the Ukrainian portal Defense Express. The ammunition has already arrived in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces are receiving ammunition as part of a large contract valued at 23 billion hryvnias, which is about €488 million. The first deliveries have already reached the units at the front. This information was provided by Andriy Demchenko, a spokesman for the State Border Service of Ukraine, which is overseeing this purchase.
Demchenko emphasised that the deliveries include a wide range of ammunition necessary to support both defensive and offensive operations. "This is equipment that is urgently needed on the front lines to stop the enemy and maintain a balance of power. We're talking about a diverse range of ammunition, not just small arms but also more complex types used in modern combat," he explained.
Payments for the contract were finalised at the end of December 2024, and deliveries are expected to continue throughout 2025. Nevertheless, as Demchenko noted, shipments have already commenced and are not being delayed until the end of the year.
Photos published by Ukrainians show that 152-millimetre calibre shells, used by howitzers like the 2S19 Msta-S or D-20, have reached the front in Ukraine. These are popular constructions used by both sides of the conflict.
Additionally, the shells produced by Poles are 122-millimetre calibre ammunition. This is suitable for 2S1 Gvozdika howitzers and BM-21 Grad self-propelled guns. Similar to the 152-millimetre calibre ammunition, these shells are used in weapons employed by both Russians and Ukrainians.
