Kremlin challenges Merz's claims on Ukraine weapon restrictions
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov responded to remarks made by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz regarding the absence of restrictions on Ukraine's use of long-range weapons. In Peskov's view, there is "considerable confusion" surrounding this issue.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that if Merz's statements about enhancing the range of missiles supplied to Ukraine are accurate, this means escalation.
However, Putin's spokesperson pointed out that "there is considerable confusion" on this matter. According to Peskov it is unclear whether this reflects reality or not. He stated that yesterday Merz mentioned that the decision had been made, that the Europeans had reached this decision. Yet one of the government members contradicted this yesterday, and today Merz still claimed that such a decision was made several months ago.
"There are no restrictions on weapon range"
To recap, on Monday, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that "there are no longer any range restrictions on the weapons delivered to Ukraine, neither from the British, the French, us, nor the Americans."
Merz also stated that Ukraine can now defend itself by targeting military sites in Russia, which it was unable to do some time ago. - Now it can - stressed the chancellor.
- Russia ruthlessly attacks civilian targets and bombards cities - said Merz. - Ukraine does not do this, and it should continue in that way. But a country that can only resist the aggressor within its own territory is not defending itself properly - added the German chancellor.
