Kremlin dismisses claims of China's role in Ukraine war

Volodymyr Zelensky reported on Tuesday that Ukrainian forces captured two Chinese citizens who were fighting on the side of Russia in the Donetsk region, in eastern Ukraine. The following day, he claimed that Ukrainian intelligence has information on 155 Chinese citizens fighting in the Russian army's ranks against Ukraine. He added that Beijing is aware of the recruitment of Chinese citizens into the conflict.
Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, forcefully denied the Ukrainian president's accusations that Russia is drawing China into the conflict in Ukraine. Peskov highlighted that Beijing has always maintained a neutral position and is a strategic partner of Russia. "This is not so. China maintains a balanced position. China is our strategic partner and friend. China has always maintained a very balanced position. This is why Zelensky is not right," said Peskov, as quoted by the Kremlin's TASS news agency.
Beijing denies
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs firmly denied that Beijing sent its soldiers to participate in the conflict in Ukraine. The Chinese authorities advise their citizens to avoid involvement in military activities. They refute reports of alleged Chinese involvement in the fighting, underscoring Beijing's neutrality on this issue.
At the same time, China remains an economic partner of Russia, and both countries continue to conduct business with each other. Cooperation between these countries has intensified, particularly since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
