To recap, the blackout on the Iberian Peninsula occurred on Monday, 28th April. Although power was gradually restored, chaos, including communication disruptions, continues in some cities to this day.

Effects of the blackout on passengers

The Red Cross, at the request of airport authorities and the Portuguese Civil Defence, organised 200 camp beds at Terminal 1 of Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon.

Initially, 400 spaces were planned, but after the power supply was restored on Monday evening, this number was reduced.

According to Red Cross data, since Tuesday morning, over 600 people have used the temporary resting place.

Cancelled and delayed flights

"The power supply failure in Portugal was the result of a problem that occurred in the Spanish power network," informed the Portuguese transmission operator, REN. They added that the blackout was triggered by a rare phenomenon – extreme temperature changes.

In total, over 30 flights were cancelled on Tuesday, including those to New York, Barcelona, Brussels, and Rome.
