Macron recalled that Canada supported Ukraine after the Russian aggression in February 2022. Both countries also participated in a conference organised by the United Kingdom. He noted that peace should be accompanied by security guarantees to protect Ukraine from "any new Russian aggression" and ensure security for all of Europe.

Macron emphasised that the Ukrainians' common commitment has always aimed for a solid and lasting peace. He added that France and Canada will continue to demand clear commitments from Russia.

Prime Minister Carney expressed a desire to strengthen relations with "reliable allies" in Europe, emphasising that it is now "more important than ever." He called Canada "the most European of non-European countries" and stressed that he wants to maintain positive relations with the United States.

Visit to Europe

Paris was the first stop on Carney's European tour after taking office.

After a working meeting with Macron, the Prime Minister of Canada visited Notre Dame Cathedral. He will then head to the United Kingdom to strengthen partnerships with European countries in response to President Donald Trump's attacks on Canada's sovereignty.

Canada, one of Kyiv’s partners, is considering sending forces to Ukraine to guarantee a possible ceasefire. France and Canada's joint efforts aim to ensure lasting peace and security in the region.
