The Spanish Marbella council was forced to clarify an unclear regulation, under which tourists urinating in the sea would be subject to a hefty € 750 fine, reports lbc.co.uk.

In reaction to the information about fines for urinating in the sea, many people began to wonder how this would be verified. Commentators noted that it is impossible to prove someone has emptied their bladder in the water.

The discussion gained such a scale that the Spanish Marbella council revisited the topic. A new position was presented, indicating that the penalties only apply to those who... decide to urinate in the sea from the shoreline.

The bylaw does not impose a sanction for peeing in the sea – it was clarified in an email to "The Guardian."

Thus, it became clear that hefty fines may be issued, but only for what tourists do on the beach.

It will not be applicable. The bylaw regulates possible antisocial infractions on the beach, just as any such acts are regulated in any public space such as on the city’s streets – it was added.

For indecent acts on the beach in Spain, one can indeed be fined up to €750. The new regulations also foresee consequences for those who let their dogs into the sea and take them to beaches not designated for animals.
