Marbella introduces hefty fines for urinating in the sea
The new regulation in the Spanish resort of Marbella imposes severe penalties for those who misuse natural resources. This time, it concerns the sea. Offenders may face fines of up to 750 euros.
The authorities in Marbella are taking a firm stance. They have grown tired of people relieving themselves while swimming in the sea. Beachgoers caught urinating in the water will be fined 750 euros.
These penalties are part of a new regulation governing the use of 25 city beaches in Marbella.
The ban on urinating in the water is not new; it has been in force since 2004. However, the previous fine was 300 euros.
Now, the penalty will be twice as high. How will people urinating in the water be identified? This has not been explained.
Vigo, one of the largest cities in Galicia, was the first to introduce a 750-euro fine for urinating on the beach or in the sea.
What are the consequences for urinating in the water?
In our country, there is no regulation governing the issue of urinating in the sea, lakes, or rivers. Such an act can be classified in two ways:
- Pollution of a public place: Anyone who pollutes or litters places accessible to the public, particularly roads, streets, squares, gardens, lawns, or green areas, is subject to a fine of up to €118 or a reprimand (art. 145 of the Code of Petty Offenses).
- Indecent behaviour: Anyone who publicly commits an indecent act is subject to arrest, restriction of liberty, a fine of up to €354, or a reprimand (art. 140 of the Code of Petty Offenses) - notes the radio station.
