According to the spokesperson for the federal government, Stefan Kornelius, the telephone conversation between the two leaders took place on Thursday evening, Greenwich Mean Time.

Trump declared his strong support for the efforts made by Germany and its European partners, including France, the United Kingdom, and Poland, to achieve lasting peace.

During the telephone conversation, Merz and Trump also agreed on the need to swiftly resolve trade disputes that may affect relations between the countries.

The American president congratulated Merz on assuming the office of chancellor, emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the US and Germany. A spokesperson for the German government highlighted that Merz assured Trump of the irreplaceable role of the United States as a friend and partner to Germany, 80 years after the end of the Second World War.
