Today, however, I'll show you how to quickly make an equally delicious microwave shakshuka – without frying, without dirtying pots, yet with the same taste and aroma.

Microwave shakshuka – a quick recipe that always works
The microwave shakshuka idea is particularly useful when every minute counts. It's a perfect portion for one person—a great alternative to toast or scrambled eggs. You prepare all the ingredients right in the dish where the meal will be heated. You don't need a pan, oven, or pots.
Although the preparation is amazingly simple, remember one important thing—before placing the bowl in the microwave, pierce the yolk. Otherwise, it may explode during heating, ruining the final result and leaving you with an unpleasant cleaning task.
How to make microwave shakshuka?
Ingredients (serving for 1 person):
- 200 millilitres of tomato passata,
- ½ red pepper,
- 1 egg,
- 1 clove of garlic,
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil,
- Salt and pepper to taste,
- Optional: fresh coriander, parsley or dried herbs.
Step-by-step preparation:
- Choose a microwave-safe bowl and thoroughly coat it with olive oil.
- Pour the tomato passata into the bowl.
- Peel the garlic, finely chop it, and add it to the passata.
- Dice the red pepper into small cubes and add them to the bowl as well.
- Season everything with salt, pepper, and, if desired, your favourite herbs – for example, coriander or oregano.
- Make a small indentation in the middle of the vegetable mixture and crack the egg into it.
- Pierce the yolk with a toothpick or the tip of a knife to prevent it from exploding during heating.
- Cover the bowl with a plate or a microwave-safe plastic lid (do not use aluminium foil!).
- Place the dish in the microwave and heat for about 1 minute on high power.
- Check if the egg white is set. If not, microwave the shakshuka for another 15–30 seconds.
- Garnish the finished dish with fresh herbs and serve with bread – it tastes best with a crispy baguette or toast.
