Netflix's "Rebel Moon" tanks despite Snyder's extended cut
Most reviewers and viewers were unforgiving of Netflix's two-part blockbuster "Rebel Moon," which has been dubbed the worst high-budget film of all time. Its creator, the steadfast Zack Snyder, decided to show viewers a director's cut, which runs for a total of six and a half hours!

"Rebel Moon" quickly became a laughingstock on the internet. People joked that the harvest took place using scythes and flails (and levitating trailers), and coal was shovelled by hand in the spaceship's boiler room. Even worse, the viewership numbers were significantly lower than expected for Netflix's most expensive narrative production. A total of €151 million was spent on the two-part film.
The first part of "Rebel Moon" recorded 23.9 million views during the premiere weekend, while the second part had 21.4 million. Meanwhile, Netflix's biggest hits this year ("Sharks in the Seine" or "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F") garnered over 40 million views in their initial release. Zack Snyder reacted quite nervously to the failure of his films. He informed the media that what viewers saw on the platform was "censored" and announced that he would soon release a director's cut of his project for mature audiences.
As he promised, so he did. According to the director's announcement, many new scenes and plotlines were introduced into the film. Viewers were also supposed to see "nudity and bold sex scenes," but in reality, they were shown only the leading actress Sofia Boutella's breasts and a fragment of her buttocks. The promise of an adult film was fulfilled with even more frequent vulgarities and bloody, violent scenes.
The two parts of the director's cut of "Rebel Moon" total six and a half hours. "It's a gruelling journey; I couldn't make it through" – wrote a Decider critic. It's hard to say whom Zack Snyder prepared this film behemoth for. Only a handful of the director's most loyal fans watched it. In Poland, the new version of "Rebel Moon" briefly appeared for just one day in the platform's Top 10 most popular titles.
