Drones in rescue operations and on the front line
Rescuers and police forces have been utilising drones in their work for a considerable period. These machines can access places unreachable by humans.
Drones are also becoming increasingly common on the front lines. As WP journalist Sławek Zagórski noted, on 13 September 2022, the Russians used Iranian Shahed 136 drones on a large scale for the first time. Their targets were military facilities and critical infrastructure in the Kharkiv region.
Since then, the frequency of these strikes has systematically increased. While in February 2023, the Russians launched only 45 Shaheds, by June 2024, this number had risen to 426 drones, in September 2024 - 1,338, in January 2025 - 2,599 units, and in February - 3,902. They were attacking with both Shahed 136 drones and their Russian counterparts, Geran 2.
With the rapid development of drones, the production of weapons to combat them is also gathering pace.
