Notre Dame set to reopen: A global gathering for unity and hope
After years of extensive renovation following the fire in 2019, the historic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is scheduled to reopen in December 2024. The ceremony is anticipated to be of global significance, with key leaders from around the world in attendance.
The restoration of one of the most important Gothic architectural monuments has spanned over five years. A dedicated team of conservators, architects, and craftsmen have worked tirelessly to restore the cathedral to its former glory. "Our goal was not only to reconstruct the structure but also to preserve its historical character," emphasised a representative from the French Ministry of Culture, as quoted by PAP.
According to PAP, citing international media, the opening ceremony will be attended by numerous world leaders as well as representatives of international organisations.
French President Emmanuel Macron expressed hope that this event will symbolise unity and renewal. Pope Francis sent a special message, which will be read during the ceremony.
