Pirelli revives classic tyres for Ferrari 288 GTO enthusiasts

Pirelli has developed new, specially designed tyres for the Ferrari 288 GTO, one of the rarest supercars in the Italian brand's history. Only 277 units were produced.

The new tyres from Pirelli are part of the Cinturato P7 series, which has its roots in WRC rallies from the 1970s. These were Pirelli’s first ultra-low-profile tyres, originally created for rally cars and later adapted for road models. For the Ferrari 288 GTO, the tyres are available in the original sizes: 225/50 R16 on the front axle and 265/50 R16 on the rear. Although no additional photos have been released, Emanuelle Vanzetti, Pirelli’s engineer for the Collezione programme, states that the look of the tyres is "100% true to the original," and their driving characteristics and style also mirror the original as closely as possible.

The prices for the new tyres for the GTO have not been disclosed, but owners of this model likely do not need to worry about the costs. Other flagship Ferrari models also have Pirelli-bespoke tyres. The F40 is fitted with a P Zero set in size 245/40 R17 at the front and 335/35 R17 at the rear. For the 349 units of the F50, P Zero Corsa tyres in sizes 245/35 R18 on the front axle and 335/30 R18 on the rear are available. The Enzo, limited to a production of 400 units, uses larger P Zero Corsa tyres, 245/35 R19 at the front and 345/35 R19 at the rear. The latest generation of flagship Ferrari supercars includes the LaFerrari and its open version, the Aperta, equipped with P Zero Corsa Asimmetrico 2 tyres.

Pirelli’s efforts confirm their close collaboration with Ferrari and demonstrate meticulous attention to detail. This allows the vehicles' original character to be preserved while enhancing their performance on the road.
