Pope Leo XIV to discuss peace with Zelensky at Vatican

Pope Leo XIV, following the inauguration of his pontificate, is set to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday. President Zelensky attended the Mass at St Peter's Square. The Vatican has announced the audience.

On Sunday, a solemn Mass inaugurated the pontificate of Pope Leo XIV, who was elected at the conclave on 8th May. Approximately 150,000 people took part in the Mass.

There were 156 official delegations in attendance, including presidents, prime ministers, representatives of monarchies, and figures from various faiths and religions. Among them were Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Italian President Sergio Mattarella or the Israeli head of state Isaac Herzog.

The United States was represented by Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, also attended.

Vatican: Pope's meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky announced

As announced by the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV will meet once again on Sunday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who attended the Mass at St Peter's Square.

Earlier, Leo XIV held a phone conversation with the Ukrainian leader. During the call, the president extended an invitation for Pope Leo XIV to visit Ukraine.

In a Monday post on the X platform, Zelensky wrote that he spoke to Pope Leo XIV. It was the first conversation, but it was very warm and truly substantial.
