Portuguese navy tracks Russian naval fleet navigating to Mediterranean
The Portuguese navy has disclosed that since the last day of the previous year, it has been closely monitoring five Russian ships that have entered waters under Portuguese jurisdiction.
According to the command of the Portuguese navy fleet, the Russian ships have been near the Portuguese coast since Tuesday, heading towards the Mediterranean Sea.
The group includes: the landing ship Alexander Shabalin, three logistical support vessels Baltic Leader, Sparta II, and General Skobielew, as well as the submarine "Novorossiysk."
The landing ship and support vessels are already in the Mediterranean Sea, the Portuguese navy reported. It is likely that "Novorossiysk" will also be there soon.
These are the latest Russian ships in this area
In the coming hours, as reported by the Portuguese military, the mission of monitoring Russian ships by Portuguese frigates and patrol boats will be completed.
Before Christmas, the Portuguese army was monitoring four Russian warships that also appeared off the coast of Portugal. All of these units were headed towards Syria.
