Putin wary as Trump eyes Greenland amid arctic tensions
Vladimir Putin believes that Donald Trump is seriously considering the annexation of Greenland. The President of Russia is concerned that the West might use the Arctic as a starting point for future conflicts. Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, is strategically located between North America and Europe.
During the Arctic forum in Murmansk, Vladimir Putin stated that Donald Trump's plans regarding Greenland are serious and have historical roots.
According to "The Moscow Times," the President of Russia expressed concern that NATO countries might view the Far North as a potential conflict zone.
Greenland, striving for independence from Denmark, already hosts an American military base.
US Vice President J.D. Vance plans a visit to the island, underscoring its strategic significance in the context of growing interest in the Arctic by the United States, China, and Russia.
Denmark has rejected Trump's proposals to acquire Greenland, emphasising that the island's residents do not want to be part of the United States. Meanwhile, climate change is opening new maritime routes in the Arctic, increasing interest in the region.
