Putin's envoy meeting leaves Trump waiting for Kremlin response
- Putin met Trump's special envoy Witkoff late on Thursday, said Peskov. The timing for Putin's conversation with Trump has not yet been set; it will be announced after Witkoff delivers his report to the US President, Dmitry Peskov told the TASS agency.
"It is reported that Steve Witkoff has conducted negotiations in Moscow and has left Russia to discuss the results with President Trump. US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz said there were grounds for 'cautious optimism.' There have been no official statements from the United States or Russia about the results of negotiations," Anton Gerashchenko, advisor to the Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs, previously wrote on Platform X.
Putin will talk with Trump
Information about the talks has now been confirmed by the Kremlin spokesperson.
- He (Witkoff - TASS) was received by President Putin late last night and provided additional information to Russia. Putin conveyed information and additional signals to President Trump via Witkoff, said Dmitry Peskov in response to a question by the TASS agency.
Recordings of a motorcade entering the Kremlin grounds are also appearing online.
Kyiv agreed. The whole world is waiting for Moscow's move
Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump's special representative, flew to Moscow on Thursday. The goal was a meeting with Putin to present the agreement reached on Tuesday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, between the USA and Ukraine. Kyiv—let us remind you—accepted the American proposal for a 30-day ceasefire. Now the decision rests with Moscow.
- We urge the Russians to sign on to this plan. This is the closest we have been to peace in this war. We are on the 10-yard line, and President (Trump) hopes the Russians will help us take this into the end zone - said the White House spokeswoman during a brief meeting with journalists in Washington.
The outcome of Witkoff's meeting with Putin remains unknown at this time.
