Russia-US talks in Riyadh stumble over Ukraine objections
Russia and the United States did not issue a joint statement following Monday's talks in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing Russian lawmaker Vladimir Chizhov.
During Monday's discussions in Riyadh, Russia and the United States were unable to come to an agreement on a joint statement. Reuters conveyed this information, citing Russian lawmaker Vladimir Chizhov.
Talks on ceasefire
Representatives from both countries spent the entire day discussing the ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the Black Sea. Vladimir Chizhov, in an interview with Rossiya-24 TV, suggested that the lack of a joint statement was due to Ukraine's resistance.
The fact that they sat for 12 hours and apparently agreed on a joint statement, which was not adopted though because of Ukraine’s position, is very typical and symptomatic - he stated.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasised that the details of the talks will not be disclosed. "These were technical talks that delved very deeply into specifics. Therefore, naturally, the content of these negotiations will not be made public," he remarked.
Russia's demands
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that the Kremlin expects the USA to persuade Ukraine to reach a maritime trade agreement in the Black Sea. Russia is also demanding the lifting of restrictions on Russian grain and fertiliser trade. Although exports of these goods are not subject to Western sanctions, there are hurdles related to payments, logistics, and insurance, as noted by Reuters.
The purpose of the talks in Riyadh was to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
