The average daily number of killed and injured Russian soldiers in Ukraine in September reached its highest level since the start of the war, reports the British Ministry of Defence, citing information from the Ukrainian General Staff.

Each day, the number of killed and injured Russian soldiers in Ukraine amounts to approximately 1,271 individuals. The previous highest average was recorded in May of this year, at 1,262.

The number of casualties has been rising since the start of the war

According to the latest intelligence report, the cumulative number of killed and injured Russian soldiers since the beginning of the war has exceeded 648,000.

It was assessed that the increase in the number of casualties since May is likely related to the expansion of military operations in the Kharkiv region in Ukraine and the Kursk region in Russia, along with the increased intensity of fighting along the front line.

It was explained that Russian forces continue to attempt to overwhelm Ukrainian forces by numerically overpowering defensive positions to achieve tactical gains.

Predictions for the rest of the year

"Russia's casualty rate is likely continue to average above 1,000 a day for the rest of 2024 despite the onset winter. To date winter conditions have not resulted in a reduction of offensive operations or attrition rates due to Russia's reliance on dismounted tactics and a lack of manoeuvre warfare, which requires better conditions," the report stated.

The latest report also includes a chart showing how the average daily number of Russian casualties has changed since March 2022, which was the first full month of the war.
