Russian forces to deploy motorcycles in drone-dodging tactic
The Russian army plans to introduce motorcycles into offensive operations in Ukraine, reports the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW). The first single-track vehicles could appear on the front as early as summer and autumn.
On Saturday, the Russian Ministry of Defence released recordings of soldiers from the 299th Parachute Regiment of the 98th Airborne Division practising offensive and defensive tactics on motorcycles.
These activities take place in groups of two or three at a Russian training ground. ISW notes that the Russians may be planning to incorporate motorcycles into the equipment of units fighting in Ukraine.
Lieutenant Colonel Pavlo Shamsyn, spokesman for the Ukrainian military contingent in Kharkiv, stated that Ukrainian intelligence has observed Russian soldiers being trained in motorcycle combat.
New Russian vehicles intended to help escape from drones
The spokesman assessed that motorcycles will improve the speed and manoeuvrability of Russian troops, which is crucial in avoiding attacks by Ukrainian drones. However, he adds, the noise generated by motorcycles may make it difficult to detect approaching drones.
