Russian missile strike injures 13 at Sumy orphanage and rehab centre
Russian troops struck a juvenile detention centre and an orphanage in Sumy, resulting in at least 13 people being injured, including children.
"This evening, 1 September, the enemy carried out a missile attack on the premises of an educational institution in Sumy, which houses a social and psychological rehabilitation centre for children and an orphanage," the local administration reported on Sunday evening.
The centre is located in a residential neighbourhood. Oleksiy Drozdenko, head of the city's military administration in Sumy, told the media that "all victims are receiving the necessary assistance."
According to preliminary information provided by the Sumy City Council, there were no fatalities as a result of the attack. Thirteen people were injured, and four of them were hospitalised. The remaining injured received the necessary help on-site.
Night attack on Ukraine
The attack caused significant material damage. In addition to the destruction in the centre itself, around 1,300 windows in nearby houses were damaged, according to the Ukrainska Pravda portal.
Sumy was not the only target of Russian airstrikes from Sunday night to Monday. The Russians also targeted, among others, Kharkiv and Kyiv, where fires broke out due to the fall of missile and kamikaze drone debris shot down by air defence.
