Russia's nuclear threat: UK among key targets revealed
The Russians, who possess nuclear weapons, are attempting to intimidate the world to further their political aims. However, this does not imply that the warheads are merely a bluff. As the portal ladbible.com reminds us, secret Russian documents suggest three potential targets for a nuclear attack. Vladimir Putin could potentially use nuclear weapons against, among others, the United Kingdom.
In 2024, the "Financial Times" described a presentation prepared for Russian officers. According to the American newspaper, as reported by the portal ladbible.com, the Russians were trained to plan a nuclear attack on 32 targets situated within Europe.
Some of these targets were allegedly on the western coast of France. Three were identified within the United Kingdom. They were clearly listed in the document. The first target is Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, a town in northwest England, where the Royal Navy's nuclear submarine shipyard is located. The second target was the industrial city of Hull, and the third was the shipyard in Rosyth, near Edinburgh, where the two Royal Navy aircraft carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, were constructed.
Targets of the Russian nuclear attack. Russia threatens the West
The mentioned documents, totalling 29, date from 2008–2014, long before Russia's invasion of Ukraine. However, this does not alter the fact that Vladimir Putin and his close circle were already pursuing an imperial policy at that time. After all, during this period, they attacked Georgia and initiated the invasion of the "little green men" in Donbas and Crimea. The weapons described in the documents were intended for tactical strikes on specific targets. It is also noted that Moscow may resort to using nuclear weapons if 20% of its strategic submarines equipped with ballistic missiles are destroyed. These are vessels capable of launching nuclear missiles.
Although the documents are over 10 years old, the "FT" suggests they remain pertinent. Vladimir Putin's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, questioned the "authenticity" of the documents. However, it is hard not to suspect there may be some truth to them. The portal ladbible.com reminds us that a pro-government Russian television presenter openly discussed the idea of spilling British blood. Since the invasion of Ukraine, Vladimir Solovyov has warned that British and French soldiers would perish if they joined the conflict. Let us remember that both countries have declared their willingness to deploy troops to ensure Kyiv's security.
