Ryanair enforces zero-tolerance as unruly flyers face legal action

They are aggressive, drunk, and argumentative. Reports of passengers' dreadful behaviour on board planes, causing emergency landings, are heard regularly. Such passengers are a nightmare for the crew and other travellers, as well as a financial loss for the airline. Ryanair has had enough and announces a "zero-tolerance policy" for such behaviour.

The budget airline announced that "they will penalise all troublesome passengers" to minimise inappropriate behaviour during journeys.

Ryanair declares war on troublesome passengers

A lawsuit for compensation amounting to £13,000 against a passenger who disrupted a flight to the Canary Islands has been filed in the Irish district court.

On 8th January, the airline officially confirmed that the document had been submitted to the relevant institution. It concerns flight R7124 from Dublin to Lanzarote on 9th April 2024. The passenger's inappropriate behaviour forced the flight to be diverted to Porto in Portugal, delaying the journey by an entire night, causing 160 travellers unnecessary disruptions and the loss of a whole day's holiday.

- It's unacceptable that people travelling with family or friends to unwind and relax on holiday suffer because of unnecessary disturbances caused by a few passengers - said a Ryanair representative (although we requested a name, we were asked to keep it anonymous - editor's note). - Unfortunately, this was the case with the April flight from Dublin to Lanzarote, which had to be diverted to Porto due to a passenger's aggressive behaviour. This resulted in £13,000 in expenses related to accommodation, passenger costs, and landing fees. We have now initiated legal proceedings against the disruptive passenger to recover these funds - they added.

The budget airline assures that it makes every effort to ensure all travellers and crew feel safe and are treated with respect, without unnecessary misunderstandings caused by a few unruly passengers.

The airline announced that it enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy for inappropriate behaviour and will take decisive steps to minimise disruptions.

- We hope this approach will deter further disruptions to flights, positively affecting the comfort of travel in a respectful environment - said a representative of the airline.
