The airline has filed a lawsuit in the Irish Circuit Court against the passenger responsible for the disruption on the April 2024 flight from Dublin to Lanzarote. Ryanair is claiming compensation exceeding €15,000. The flight, carrying 160 passengers, was diverted to Porto due to "inappropriate passenger behaviour," resulting in a delay of an entire night.

Ryanair combats disruptive passenger behaviour

The airline stated that the €15,000 sum is intended to cover costs arising from the unscheduled landing, accommodation for the passengers, and other associated expenses.

"Ryanair has a strict zero tolerance policy towards passenger misconduct and will continue to take decisive action to combat unruly passenger behaviour on aircraft for the benefit of the vast majority of passengers who do not disrupt flights," the airline stated.

Ryanair stresses its zero-tolerance policy towards inappropriate behaviour and plans to "they will penalise all troublesome passengers." The sued passenger is an Irish citizen, marking the country's first case of its kind.

Ryanair intends to pursue similar legal actions in other jurisdictions.
