Scandal in France. Nice polling station: Election official attacked

France is currently holding early parliamentary elections. Since their announcement, they have stirred significant emotions among the public and politicians. It turns out that even the members of the commissions are not keeping their cool. In one of the electoral commissions in Nice, there was a scandalous brawl and fight.

The chairman of one of the election commissions in Nice does not hide his shock and cannot recover from the morning incident. When he opened the polling station, he was attacked by a trusted representative appointed to oversee the election process by Éric Ciotti’s camp, a Republican candidate in the local elections.

According to an anonymous man’s account, he was punched in the face in front of shocked voters.

“I can’t believe it,” he told journalists when he returned to his post on Sunday afternoon after filing a complaint. He acted like a madman,” he said, summarizing the delegate’s behaviour. The police have detained the aggressive man.

The attack was condemned, among others, by the Mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi. "With all determination, I condemn the physical attack suffered by the chairman of the polling station at the Baumettes school, by an assessor appointed by Mr Ciotti, who, before hitting the chairman, tried to prevent the opening of the polling station,” he wrote on platform X.

In an interview with Nice-Matin, Éric Ciotti "expressed his support for the polling station chairman" and "condemned" the delegate's behaviour, to whom he "immediately revoked any powers".
