Spanish Easter travel marred by storms and heavy rains

Those planning to spend Easter in Spain should prepare for unfavourable weather conditions. In local resorts, the temperatures may be cooler over the coming days than in Sweden. Heavy rainfall is also expected.

Unfortunately, the weather forecasts for the next few days are not very encouraging. For Wednesday, 16 April, extensive rain and storms are predicted in Spain. The northeastern part of the country, including Barcelona and Catalonia, is expected to be particularly affected.

Meteorologists predict that Thursday will be the most stable day of the week, yet an orange weather warning has been issued in Cantabria.

Spanish authorities have issued storm warnings

On the north coast of Spain, waves are forecast to reach up to 23 feet. Strong winds are expected in Galicia and the Canary Islands. A new storm is predicted to arrive on Good Friday, bringing rain to the northwest of the country and affecting most of Spain by Saturday.

After a weekend of weather chaos in Lanzarote, where a violent storm caused flooding, authorities have issued warnings for travellers. Over two hours, more than 10 centimetres of rain fell in Costa Teguise, which is equivalent to the annual rainfall.

However, it's worth monitoring developments. The British Moran-Ambrose family, who spent £2,500 on their holiday, experienced flooding in a Spanish hotel. In an interview with the portal The Sun, Tony Moran-Ambrose described how the water flooded their room on the third floor, and the lack of electricity made it impossible to use the toilets and access food.
