Stabbing attack in Bavarian park leaves two dead, suspect held
On Wednesday, a stabbing attack in a park in Aschaffenburg, Bavaria, resulted in the deaths of two people, including a child. According to the German daily "Bild", the police have arrested a suspect. Several other individuals were seriously injured.
The attack occurred shortly before noon in the city centre park, about 25 miles southeast of Frankfurt am Main. The police swiftly apprehended the suspect, aided by regular patrols in the park. Rail traffic in Aschaffenburg was suspended as the perpetrator attempted to flee via the tracks.
"Dangerous place"
The motive behind the attack remains unknown. The park, where the tragedy unfolded, had previously been classified as a "dangerous place" due to incidents of robbery and drug-related assaults.
Police Chief Frank Eckhardt highlighted the importance of the officers' prompt response in capturing the suspect.
"Bild" reports that there is currently no ongoing threat to the public.
