In response to this comment, the attacker pulled out a knife and assaulted the 17-year-old. Austin died in the arms of his twin brother, Hunter, who desperately tried to save him.
- I could see all the blood, and I saw where the wound was, and I was very concerned, so I had to find his brother, and we rushed to the hospital. And we prayed, and it’s God’s plan, I don’t understand it, but they weren’t able to save him. This is murder - said the victim's father.
The bereaved father also expressed sympathy for Anthony's family.
Austin Metcalf was not only a gifted athlete but also the captain of his football team. His father highlighted that football was his passion. Austin was recognised as the team's Most Valuable Player by his teammates and coaches, and he was working on improving his speed on the athletics track.
What's next for the attacker?
The perpetrator, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, was arrested by the police and charged with murder. He is currently in custody.
Just a few hours after the tragedy, the anguished father of the attacker told the "New York Post": "Everyone has already made their assumptions about my son, but he’s not what they’re making him out to be."
The man insists that his son did not start the altercation and had never been aggressive before. - He's a good kid - he added, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
