What do you need to know?

  • Donald Trump will not attend the Victory Parade on 9th May in Moscow. This information was confirmed by Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman for the President of Russia, in response to a query from the Kremlin agency TASS.
  • Over 20 heads of state and government are expected at the parade in Moscow.

Why is Donald Trump not coming to Moscow?

Dmitry Peskov explained that there are no plans for Donald Trump to visit Moscow for the Victory Parade on 9th May.

“There was no talk about this,” he conveyed.

More than 20 heads of state and government are anticipated at the parade. Among those expected to attend the ceremony in Moscow is Slovakia's Prime Minister, Robert Fico.

The head of EU diplomacy warns

The head of EU diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, commented on the parade. The former Prime Minister of Estonia cautioned EU partners, suggesting they should not participate in the celebrations organised by Vladimir Putin.

“Ms. Kallas, I would like to inform you that I am the legitimate Prime Minister of Slovakia – a sovereign country. No one can dictate to me where I can or cannot travel,” Fico responded to Kallas.

Putin also responded to Kallas’ remarks on Sunday, questioning whether European officials have the capabilities and readiness to act on their threats. He noted that making threats requires both the necessary means and the willingness to use them — elements he suggested may be lacking.
