In a conversation with a journalist, Trump was asked whether he thinks the Russian president will heed his earlier call to halt the bombings. He responded affirmatively.

Trump confident Putin will listen

The US president expressed his belief that Putin would listen to him and halt the attacks on Ukraine.

This exchange took place during the official welcome of the Norwegian head of government.

A moment later, Trump emphasised that, in his opinion, both sides of the conflict are interested in peace, and the prospect of reaching an agreement is realistic. When pressed for a possible deadline for the conclusion of negotiations, he stated that he has his own timeframe. However, he noted that if the talks do not yield results at the expected pace, he will switch to a "decidedly different" approach.

"Vladimir, stop!" Trump comments on the appeal to Putin

The war in Ukraine is to be one of the main topics of discussions held by the leaders, including former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who currently serves as the finance minister in the Norwegian government.

Earlier, on Thursday morning Greenwich Time, Trump referred to the Russian missile attack on Kyiv, which caused the deaths of at least nine people and injured over 60. The former US president expressed his outrage in a post on the Truth Social platform.

"I am not happy with the Russian strikes on KYIV. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, STOP! 5000 soldiers a week are dying. Lets get the Peace Deal DONE!" wrote Trump.
