According to information provided by the Axios portal, US President Donald Trump intervened to prevent Elon Musk from receiving a classified Pentagon briefing on plans for war with China. This decision was a response to the "The New York Times" publication on 20th March, which reported on Musk's planned meeting at the Pentagon. Trump reportedly expressed displeasure, asking, "What the f(...) is Elon doing there? Make sure he doesn't go."

Although Musk visited the Pentagon, he did not gain access to information about China. Trump expressed concerns that Musk, with his numerous business interests in China, could be susceptible to influence. Tesla, Musk's company, operates a large factory in Shanghai and imports some parts from China. The leak of information about the planned briefing led to the suspension of two Pentagon advisors, Dan Caldwell and Darin Selnick, due to an internal investigation.

Musk's actions irritate many members of the Trump administration, even though the President still regards him highly. Musk opposes tariffs imposed on China and has criticised trade adviser Peter Navarro, a chief proponent of tariffs. Reuters reported that Tesla suspended the delivery of components for Semi trucks and the developing Cybertruck due to tariffs.
