Trump considers new sanctions as Putin tensions rise
Donald Trump is apparently losing patience with Vladimir Putin. As reported by "The Wall Street Journal," the US president may impose new sanctions against Russia later this week.
According to the "WSJ," Trump is disappointed with Vladimir Putin's actions towards Ukraine and the slow progress of peace negotiations.
According to the journal's sources, although the new sanctions are unlikely to include the banking sector, other forms of pressure are being considered, which may even target Putin himself. All of this is intended to encourage him to make concessions, including accepting a one-month ceasefire backed by Ukraine, which Russia rejects.
"The Wall Street Journal" emphasizes that the US president is weary of the peace process and is considering withdrawing from it if this "final push" does not yield results.
"It is unclear what would happen if the US retreats from the peace process and whether Trump would continue to provide military support to Ukraine," the "WSJ" summarises.
Trump furious with Putin. "He’s gone crazy"
On Sunday, after a massive Russian drone attack on Ukraine, Trump wrote on his social media channel Truth Social that Russian leader Vladimir Putin "has completely lost his mind."
"I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldier" Trump wrote. "I’ve always said that he wants ALL of Ukraine, not just a piece of it, and maybe that’s proving to be right, but if he does, it will lead to the downfall of Russia!" he added.
Trump had repeatedly mentioned before that Putin wanted all of Ukraine but supposedly gave up on these ambitions because of him.
