During the election campaigns in 2023 and 2024, Trump frequently emphasised that he had a plan for swiftly ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. As early as March 2023, during the Conservative Political Action Conference in Maryland, he announced that he would resolve the conflict even before taking office. He made similar declarations at rallies in Texas, New Hampshire, and North Carolina.

Trump announced that he would meet with Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky to broker peace. In May 2023, in an interview with CNN, he said that he knows both leaders and is able to quickly end the conflict. He emphasised that his experience and relationships with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine are crucial for reaching an agreement.

Trump criticised Biden for a lack of decisive action

Donald Trump did not hold back criticism of Joe Biden’s administration, claiming that it was not taking sufficient action to end the war. Trump believes that his approach to Russia is more decisive and will yield better results.

CNN noted that Trump presented these promises as a key element of his programme for a second term. He claimed that his credibility as a leader and peacemaker would guarantee success in ending the conflict.
