What you need to know

  • Mike Waltz, the National Security Advisor to the President of the USA, used a private Gmail account for business discussions.
  • NSC spokesperson Brian Hughes denies that Waltz used a private email as described by the media, claiming he did not send classified information.
  • "Signalgate" controversy: Waltz was previously involved in controversies related to using the Signal app for planning military operations.

Waltz used Gmail for sensitive correspondence

According to "The Washington Post," Mike Waltz, the National Security Advisor to the President of the USA, conducted official correspondence using a private Gmail account. The newspaper cites sources within the administration and obtained documents.

NSC spokesperson Brian Hughes stated that there is no evidence that Waltz used a private email in the manner described by the media. He emphasised that Waltz did not send classified information from an open account. Nonetheless, these reports are yet another example of careless handling of sensitive information by White House officials.

Another blunder by Trump's advisor

Previously, on the Signal messaging app, Waltz created a group chat discussing issues related to the war in Ukraine and operations in Somalia. Although President Trump was reportedly furious with his advisor, he ultimately decided not to dismiss him to avoid giving satisfaction to the liberal media.

Using a private email account for official correspondence brings to mind the scandal that contributed to Hillary Clinton's election defeat in 2016. At the time, Waltz and other members of the administration demanded that criminal charges be brought against her, which did not occur. The current situation shows that this issue remains relevant in American politics.
