Trump's Gaza plan sparks protests: 'Gaza is not for sale'
"Gaza is not for sale," chanted the protesters who gathered outside the White House. They declared that "they will continue to resist for every piece of Palestine." This follows Trump's announcement about plans for the U.S. to take over the Gaza Strip.
Donald Trump, during Tuesday's conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, announced that "the U.S. will take control of the Gaza Strip."
"We will be responsible for dismantling all threats, bombs, and other weapons in this area, levelling the terrain, and removing destroyed buildings. We will create economic development that provides an unlimited number of jobs and housing for the residents of this area," announced Trump.
According to his claims, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip should not again "go through the process of rebuilding and occupation by the same people who were there, fought for it, lived there, died, and led miserable lives." For residents, it is only associated with "death and destruction."
Trump presented the idea as a way to break the cycle of violence in the region and outlined his vision of creating the "Riviera of the Middle East" in Gaza, where "international people," including Palestinians, would live.
Netanyahu supported Trump's idea, having previously discussed it with him. The Israeli Prime Minister stated that one of Israel's goals is to ensure that Gaza is not ruled by Hamas and that "Trump is taking this idea to a higher level."
Protest after Trump's words
One journalist, RMF FM correspondent Paweł Żuchowski, published a recording online showing the protest taking place outside the White House. After Trump's statements, immigrants from Palestine and others expressing their support gathered there.
Among other things, they chanted "Gaza is not for sale" and declared that "they will continue to resist for every piece of Palestine."
Residents of the Gaza Strip: We will not leave our homes
"Trump can go to hell with his ideas, beliefs, and money. We are not going anywhere. He cannot treat us as his property," residents of the Gaza Strip told BBC and Reuters journalists on Wednesday. "If he wants to solve this conflict, he should take the Israelis to one of the states in the U.S. They are the foreigners here, not the Palestinians," they added.
They declared that "they will not leave their homes." "Trump is crazy, we did not leave Gaza because of bombings and hunger, so why would we do it now?" they said.
