Trump's support plummets as tariffs stir economic fears

The IPSOS poll was conducted following Trump's announcement about introducing tariffs on goods from several dozen selected countries. These are set to take effect from 5 April.
On 2 April, Donald Trump announced that the United States would impose reciprocal tariffs on products imported from several dozen countries. The tariffs imposed on China are record-breaking, reaching 54%. The tariffs will be in effect from 5 April.
The decision on tariffs, as well as the announcement of a military attack against the Houthis in Yemen, did not sit well with American voters. According to an IPSOS survey commissioned by Reuters, overall support for Donald Trump has dropped to 43%.
This is the lowest level since the American president took office. Compared to the last survey, Donald Trump has lost 2 percentage points. On 20 January (at the time of taking office), the politician enjoyed 47% support from Americans.
How did Americans rate Trump? The problem is the high cost of living
Donald Trump received harsh criticism from American voters. Only 37% of those surveyed support his economic policies. The actions of the president's administration in terms of fighting inflation and the high cost of living are very poorly rated. Only 30% of Americans view these efforts favourably.
More than half of those surveyed (52%) also believe that increasing tariffs on cars and car parts imported from third countries will harm the economy. 33% of Americans support the decision.
Additionally, respondents criticise the Trump administration's approach to military issues and the announcement of an attack on Yemen. The survey was conducted from 31 March to 2 April, on a group of 1,486 adult Americans.
