The Prime Minister on the need for quick reaction

Prime Minister Keir Starmer reiterated that the United Kingdom must be poised to react swiftly should a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia materialise. Although not attending the European Union summit, Starmer addressed its primary focus, which involves defending and supporting Ukraine.

- Now we're working at pace because we don't know if there'll be a deal, - he remarked. - I certainly hope there will be, but if there's a deal, it's really important that we're able to react straight away. (Our) plans are focusing on keeping the sky safe, the sea safe and the border safe and secure in Ukraine, and working with the Ukrainians, - he emphasised.

Summit in London

In London, Starmer is set to meet with military commanders from around 30 countries. The agenda will cover plans focused on the proposed peacekeeping forces for Ukraine. This meeting aims to discuss strategies and prepare for possible developments in the Ukrainian situation.

The United Kingdom, alongside its allies, underscores the necessity of being ready to act swiftly should a ceasefire occur. Starmer remarked that international collaboration is vital when it comes to defending and supporting Ukraine. Britain, as one of the principal allies, holds a pivotal role in these preparations.
